If you've been paying attention to my Instagram, you'll notice I've become plant obsessed. My thumb is slowing turning chartreuse. You know that poopy yellow green color? Somewhere between brown and I know what I'm doing.
I'm trying to find plants that I can handle taking care of and the one that gave me the most confidence early on is below. I don't think you could kill this plant even if you tried but more about that in a second.

About a year or two ago I decided I wanted a plant for my office, which is 100% windowless. No natural light comes in whatsoever. While at Lowe's one day, I saw a line of plants dubbed 'Plants of Steel.' Between my zero success rate with plants to date and the name, I thought, what the heck? So I went for it. I later learned the plant was a 'ZZ Plant'. Zamioculcas zamiifolia in plant lady circles.
I would forget to water it and generally just didn't do much to care for the plant. But guess what? It thrived! Even in the near total darkness of my office! (I would often put on a side lamp and keep my overhead lights off.) You. Can't. Kill. This. Plant!
If you keep the plant in low light, it needs less water, maybe a few weeks between watering. If you put it in a sunny spot (no direct sunlight) it will require more frequent watering but still only once a week or so. I just repotted and fertilized mine to encourage more growth but for the conditions my plant has been living in, it's been slow to moderate growing.
*IMPORTANT* This plant is toxic when digested by pets and kids so keep that in mind as you put it in your home.
I'm LOVING this trend. I recently purchased this pot for a snake plant I needed a home for. I really like the dark pot contrasting with the natural wood. This one sits right by our front door and the added height makes a statement without it feeling like a wimpy plant laying on the floor.
Here are some that I found on Amazon that I couldn't stop eyeing! I love the mix of the rough gray and polished gold on this beauty. It's 11.8 x 11.8 x 19 inches.
This one is fairly simple but the pot has a really pretty texture that reminds me of antique crocks my grandma had. The mix of black is a modern addition that makes this pot really versatile. It's 7.6" in diameter x 9.1"H.
This one includes a Chinese Money/UFO/Sharing plant and is sold by the same farm where I got my Fiddle Leaf Fig. I love the black pot with wood and the fact that you don't even have to pot it. Here is a great resource on the plant. They are said to be easy to care for!
Do you have a plant/pot you love but would love to freshen it up a bit? Here is a trivet that acts similar to these trendy planters.
